The Ways Of Love

occasionally

we will stumble upon Love

an old poem

in a worn leather-bound book

found on the very top shelf

of a cozy book store

a great new song

on the radio while

driving fast on the highway

with the windows rolled down

or running into a dear friend

we didn’t expect to see

just when we needed to

sometimes

it discloses itself to us slowly

when we are weary and in needof something…

…anything

a cluster of primrose

hidden upon the forest floor

a sunset that illumines

the horizon as well as the heart

a gentle smile from a stranger

that seems to understand

more often

Love comes to us softly

barely noticed

like a dandelion seed

carrying a wish

upon the evening breeze

or a poem

whispered at night

from depths of one heart

into the heart of another
